1 Introduction The pitch (or fundamental frequencies) of music or audio signals is widely controlled in multimedia, for example, changing the tone of voices on television, in karaoke systems, and to correct the pitch of recorded music. A simple way to modify the pitch of audio signals is to increase or decrease the playback speed. However, this method changes not only the pitch but also the timbre of the signals. When transformation of timbre is undesirable such as when the pitch of recorded music is corrected, only the pitch has to be controlled independently of timbre.
